Artist Bio

Ella Ward Crawford is a Halifax-based artist from Ottawa, Ontario, and a third-year Fine Arts student at NSCAD University. Working across diverse mediums, including sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and painting. Their practice centers on collection, observation, and engagement with the complexity of relationships and sensorial experience.

Ella draws inspiration from artists such as Ana Mendieta, who explore site specificity and the interplay between body, space and environment. They value the physicality of artmaking and emphasize technical experimentation with materials and processes. Their interest in art education and accessibility is informed by their experience as a guide and artistic interpreter at the National Gallery of Canada.

Ella’s work has been recognized with the NSCAD Entrance Scholarship, the FUNSCAD Homer Lord Memorial Award, the Thomas George and Ethel Pearson MacKenzie Scholarship, and the Barbara Newman Scholarship. They are currently participating in a month-long exhibition of student art in Halifax’s Point Pleasant Park, beginning in April 2026.
